Elderly woman rescued from ravine

An elderly woman was brought to safety by emergency rescue workers after falling into a ravine near Merthyr Tydfil.

Firefighters and mountain rescue teams freed her from the ravine by the Glaes Bridge near Sanatorium Hill in Pontsarn.

Crews from Merthyr, Aberdare, Barry and Ebbw Vale were called to the scene at about 1040 BST on Monday.

It is not known how long the woman had been in the water for.

Ambulance crews were on standby and police also went to the scene.

Firefighters and members of mountain rescue teams co-ordinated efforts to bring the woman safety.

She has been taken to hospital.
