Man killed by train near crossing

British Transport Police are leading the investigation
A man has died after being hit by a train near a manned level crossing near an industrial estate in south Wales.

Emergency services were called to the crossing on Pill Row in Caldicot near Newport at 1820 GMT on Tuesday.

British Transport Police said the train was not derailed and no other vehicle was involved in the accident.

The man's death is not thought to have been suspicious and no details of his identity have been released.

A Network Rail spokesman said trains had been halted in the area for several hours following the accident

Gwent Police are helping transport police with their investigation.
