Eurovision star's father dies
James Fox
James Fox is taking time off from the musical
Singer James Fox has withdrawn temporarily from his role as Judas in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar following the sudden death of his father.

Fox took time off the show at the Birmingham Hippodrome after his father was found dead at his south Wales home.

Police were called to the Bargoed home of Richard Mullet, aged 56, on Monday.

His death is not being treated as suspicious. A post-mortem examination is being carried out and the coroner has been informed.

Fox is said to have been very close to his father, who lived alone.

The singer withdrew from the Tim Rice - Andrew Lloyd Webber show for three days, from Monday to Wednesday, 13 - 15 September.

A Gwent Police spokesman said officers received reports about Mr Mullett's death on Monday morning.

"There is nothing to indicate suspicious circumstances surrounding the death at this time," said police.

"We are awaiting the results of toxicology tests."

Mr Mullett, who had been separated from James Fox's mother for a number of years, was said to have been an inspiration to his son's musical career after playing in a band.

James Fox found stardom after appearing in the BBC TV series Fame Academy.

He was selected to sing in this year's Eurovision Song contest, finishing 16th with the ballad Hold On To Our Love.
