Boy 'tangled in blind cord' dies

House at Nefyn, near Pwllheli
North Wales Police described the death as a tragic accident

A boy aged nearly two has died after he is understood to have become entangled in the cord of a window blind.

The emergency services were called to a house in Nefyn near Pwllheli, Gwynedd, at about 2230 BST on Wednesday.

Gethin Ifor Jones was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, where he died. Police said it was a "tragic accident" and they are not treating his death as suspicious.

The north west Wales coroner has opened and adjourned an inquest and a post mortem examination is to take place.

The boy would have been two years old next week.

Local councillor Llinos Merks called it a horrendous tragedy.

"As a community I'm sure we all sympathise deeply with the family for their tragic loss," she said.

"To lose him in such a way is horrendous. I'm sure the whole community will do anything withiin their power to get them through this.

"Everybody's just just shocked. There's a black cloud over the town today."
