A memorial bench, made by the grandfather of a teenager killed in a car crash, has been be unveiled.

Clifford Jones, 17, from Malltraeth, Anglesey, died with two others. A fourth girl was critically injured.

His mother said the oak bench was unveiled on his grandfather's 60th birthday. He is also called Clifford.

Rebecca Lee, 18, and Elin Rowlands, 15, both of Bangor also died in the crash in February. They were all passengers in a Citroen, which hit a tree.

The driver, Richard Brown, from Newborough, Anglesey, was later jailed for 10 years after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

The three were in the back of Brown's Citroen C2 VTS when he lost control and hit a tree on the A5 at Menai Bridge.

A fourth teenager, Stacey Williams, 18, from Bangor, who was a front seat passenger, is still in hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries and is tetraplegic.

Between 150 and 200 mourners gathered at Clifford's funeral at Llangadwaladr Church, Hermon.

Since then his mother Jennifer said being busy had helped her cope with her grief.

As well as the bench memorial, with a plaque stating "In memory of Cliff bach" Mrs Hughes has also pledged to support road safety charity Brake.

"The bench (memorial) has been especially made out of oak by Cliff's grandfather, who is also called Clifford," said Mrs Hughes.

It was unveiled at a ceremony with Albert Owen the MP on Tuesday afternoon - on the 60th birthday of Cliff's grandfather, Clifford 'Mawr' Thomas Jones.

Mrs Hughes said as part of her involvement with Brake, she was planning a sponsored walk along the Cob at Malltraeth in November.

"It helps me to keep busy," she added.

The location for the bench, near the entrance to the beach, was chosen because it is near the home of Cliff's grandparents, Mrs Hughes said.

Mr Jones said: "This is where he played most of his life. It's something for the village to remember him by."
