Campers said they were delighted with the packs

Hundreds of breakfast packs made up of local foods and craft products have been handed out to holiday makers in Gwynedd.

The Llwyddo yng Ngwynedd (Achieving in Gwynedd) scheme aims to promote produce such as meat, eggs, milk, bread and jams to visitors.

Two hundred packs - worth £15 each - have already been handed out by Gwynedd council on the Lleyn peninsula.

Another 100 will be distributed at campsites in the area this weekend.

The first batch of packs were warmly received by people at camping sites and self-catering properties in and around the Abersoch area, said Mirain Gwyn, from enterprise service Annog, which administers the project for the council.

"We want to prove to both visitors and locals alike that it pays in all sorts of ways to buy locally," she said.

Campers at Penyberth caravan and camping site near Llanbedrog said they were initially surprised to receive something for nothing, but delighted with the pack.

"This is a brilliant idea. We always buy local eggs in the market in Pwllheli and love Welsh beef and lamb," said one, Ian Baldwin-Quirk.

Alison Jenkins and her son Oliver from Derby said they always tried to buy local produce when they were in the area, which was usually every other week.

"I shop locally at Pwllheli and Abersoch and I always call in at Glasfryn on my way to and from Penyberth to buy local produce," she added.
