The cyclepath bridge on the Llanfairfechan side
|
The construction of two bridges carrying a cycleway over the A55 in north Wales has stopped after the building firm went into administration.
Shropshire-based Wrekin Construction Group employs 600 people in the UK.
The structures between Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr in Conwy were due to be officially opened in April, but are only 90% complete.
The Welsh Assembly Government said it was in discussion with the administrators.
"The assembly government will be discussing with the administrators the best way to proceed," said a spokesperson.
"The bridges are already 90% complete and we will urgently look at what arrangements need to be put in place to ensure that they are finished soon."
The bridges had earlier been dubbed "ugly" by some local residents, who said they felt it was a missed opportunity to create something beautiful.
In response the assembly government said the bridges were chosen for safety, ease of maintenance, and value for money.
