Triple death crash victim funeral

Between 150 and 200 mourners have gathered on Anglesey for the funeral of one of three teenagers killed in road crash a week ago.

The funeral of 17-year-old Clifford Jones took place at Llangadwaladr Church, Hermon.

A pregnant 18-year-old woman and a girl aged 15 also died. A girl, 17, was critically hurt in the crash near Menai Bridge.

A 24-year old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The single-vehicle collision involving a Citroen C2 happened on the A5 between Menai Bridge and Llanfairpwll in the early hours of last Saturday.

The parents of Clifford Jones, from Maltraeth on Anglesey who was about to start training to be a plasterer, paid tribute before his funeral.

In a statement, they said: "His whole family and friends are devastated that he was taken away from them at such a young age and our hearts go out to the other families at such a difficult time."

Rebecca Jane Lee, 18, who was pregnant, Elin Rowlands, also known as Ellie Chambers, 15, and Cliff Jones, 17, both from Bangor, also died.

A third teenager, Stacey Williams, 17, from Bangor, has been transferred from Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

Richard Brown, the car driver, suffered a broken leg, ankle pelvis and a fractured vertebra in his neck in the crash.

He was brought to court at Llandudno in a wheelchair under police escort from hospital on Wednesday.

He is due to appear at Caernarfon Crown Court on 13 March.
