The parents of a 14-year-old girl who died after a collision with a van have paid tribute to their "much loved daughter" who was a "tomboy at heart".

Hannah Davies died following the collision in Perthygleision, Aberfan, Merthyr Vale, on Saturday evening.

A 33-year-old woman driving a Vauxhall Movano box van was arrested and later released on bail by South Wales Police.

Hannah had just begun her GCSEs at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun, Hirwaun, and was also taking a college plumbing course.

In a statement her mother and father, Claire Davies and Mark Emery, said: "Hannah was much loved by her family including her brothers Morgan, Dylan and Christopher and sisters Natasha, Leah, Kirsty, Rebecca and Caitlin.

"She had just started Year 10 in school and had just started her GCSEs.

"She was a tomboy at heart and was hoping to become a plumber. One day a week she was attending a plumbing course at Merthyr College and was very much regarded as one of the boys.

"She was a big Liverpool Football Club fan and shared her love of Liverpool with her father from a very young age.

"Hannah was a very popular girl with a very large circle of friends."

Police have asked any witnesses to the incident at about 1725 BST on Saturday to contact them on 029 2022 2111.
