Learning blocks to a big picture

Detail of the work recreated in 54 individual blocks.

Fifty-four budding artists have each created a work of art to form a large-scale reproduction of a landscape by an Anglesey painter.

Produced as part of Adult Learners' Week, the 24cm x 18cm (9in by 7in) blocks are based on Wilf Roberts' work.

Called Penrhyn, it shows an old farmhouse near Llanfwrog on Anglesey.

The finished piece, measuring 2.22m x 1.14m (7ft 3in by 3ft 9in), will be unveiled for the first time at Oriel Mon, Llangefni, on Friday afternoon.

Anglesey's lifelong learning co-ordinator, Bethan Hughes-Jones said: "We thought that recreating a painting on a larger scale would be a good idea for the Big Picture project.

"We discussed it with Oriel Ynys Mon and then we approached Wilf Roberts who agreed to let us use his beautiful landscapes called Penrhyn," she said.

The group worked from photos to make the 54-piece "bigger picture".

Anglesey education portfolio holder Eurfryn Davies, said: "It was an interesting and exciting project which got a great many people to learn more about creating, painting, arts and crafts.

"The work they've created will take pride of place at the Oriel," he added.
