Both rescues were made on Saturday evening

Two RAF helicopter rescues have been carried out within an hour in the mountains of north west Wales.

The helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey came to the rescue of a 46-year-old climber from north west England on Saturday evening.

He fell about 20ft (6m) in the Llanberis Pass and was flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital in Bangor.

Later five walkers were flown off Cader Idris near Dolgellau. South Snowdonia mountain rescue team was also involved.

The climber was rescued at 1936 BST and was taken to hospital with head, leg and arm injuries. He had been leading a climb when his hold snapped.

The party of walkers, included one who had hurt his ankle and was suffering from exhaustion, was rescued around 2015 BST.

Llanberis mountain rescue team was also deployed.

The incidents come a week after a Chinook aircraft had to be drafted in to tow an RAF rescue helicopter to its base in Valley after it broke down during a call-out.
