Anger as bus service is cancelled

The bus is a lifeline according to the residents of Liddell Park

Disabled people and pensioners claim they cannot access vital services after a Llandudno bus service was cancelled.

Nearly 200 people have now signed a petition demanding that Arriva buses reinstate the number 73 at Liddell Park.

Arriva buses said they operated the service on contract for Conwy County Council who approved the new timetable.

A council spokeswoman said they were speaking to the bus company about further changes to address the problem.

Doreen Williams, who helped launch the petition, said: "We had no prior warning, no indication it was going to happen, it might have been in the paper but it wasn't seen by people.

Miss Williams said residents were "not coping well at all" with the changes, adding: "I was on the bus the other day and one lady was very confused that the bus did not stop where it usually does."

The number 73 passed conveniently past the local surgery, but now residents have to go on a longer round-trip to see the doctor, Miss Williams said.

A Conwy Council spokeswoman said the changes were introduced to replace a temporary service that had been operating between Maes Hyfryd, Nant y Coed and Llandudno and the proposals were advertised in the press.

She said the new service catered for the majority of people who wanted to travel to and from Llandudno town centre, but admitted some other journeys were "now less easy".

She added: "We are discussing some further changes with Arriva, to help address the problem."
