A woman has been flown to hospital after a rescue operation in a lake at a quarry in Gwynedd.

The woman, 32, managed to make her own way to a ledge at the side of Bryn Hall Quarry at Llanllechid near Bethesda.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue team had given her blankets and looked after her before she was airlifted to hospital by a helicopter from RAF Valley.

She was said to be cold and wet but otherwise not badly hurt after the incident at 1730 BST on Friday.

A number of fire crews and a rope rescue unit from Colwyn Bay were sent after a 999 call.

It is not known what the woman was doing at the lake.

Would-be divers are warned about the dangers of the privately-owned flooded quarry, which is up to 50m deep.
