William Charles Hughes
Hughes admitted illegally possessing guns
A pensioner who admitted illegally possessing guns will also be charged with supplying weapons to a Wrexham headmaster, a court heard on Thursday.

William Charles Hughes, 65, from Gwersyllt, Wrexham, admitted 14 charges of illegally possessing firearms.

Mold Crown Court heard Hughes will now be charged with supplying weapons to Martin Wynn Davies, 58, who was jailed in June for possession of firearms.

The prosecution were given three weeks to prepare and serve the new charges.

Judge Merfyn Hughes QC adjourned sentencing for the possession charges, and said both cases would be dealt with together.

Retired British Rail worker Hughes admitted illegally possessing firearms which included, among others, two rifles, a number of revolvers and pistols, and ammunition.

Further offences are also due to be taken into consideration, the court heard, and Hughes was remanded in custody.

The new charges will relate to supplying Martin Wynn Davies, who was sacked as head of Ysgol Deiniol in Marchwiel following his conviction.

Davies was jailed for four years after admitting illegally possessing 21 weapons and more than 200 bullets.

The court at the time heard Davies was obsessed with guns, and never intended to use any of the weapons for criminal or sinister purposes.
