An 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of an 81-year-old woman in a two-car crash near Abergele, north Wales.

Dorothy Hollingsworth, a volunteer at Glan Clwyd Hospital from Towyn, died after a collision on Tuesday.

Dean William Churchill, from Stoke-on-Trent, was remanded in custody by Prestatyn magistrates to appear at Mold Crown Court on 11 August.

Two other men have been released by police without charge.

The accident happened at the junction of Gors Road and the A547 Rhuddlan Road between Abergele and Towyn at 1800 BST on Tuesday.

Mrs Hollingworth, who lived in Towyn, died after a collision between her Rover Metro car and a Leyland Daf van.

She was on her way home from the hospital, where she was a volunteer with the WRVS.

The road was closed for more than 12 hours after the accident.

Mr Churchill is also accused of failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
