Jobs lost with abattoir closure
Cig Mon, Llangefni
The abattoir is the second firm to close in a week in Llangefni
An abattoir on Anglesey which employs about 100 people has announced that it is to close.

Cig Môn, in Llangefni, said on Monday that the business was going into receivership.

Last week, 200 jobs were also lost in Llangefni at Grampian Foods - a poultry processing plant.

The Plaid Cymru AM for Anglesey, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said the latest job losses at Cig Môn were "a body blow" for the area.

He added: "We already face the prospect of losing 200 jobs at Grampian.

"With the loss of so many jobs in the food and food processing sector means that we must work hard to diversify our economic base.

"I hope to contact the receivers and ask if the business can be sold as a going concern."

North Wales Conservative AM Brynle Williams added: "Only two months ago, Cwmni Cig Arfon went into administration, and now Cig Môn has followed suit.

"I am very concerned for Cig Môn's employees and the loss of such a highly-skilled workforce is a blow both for Anglesey's economy and the meat processing industry as a whole."

Staff at Cig Môn were told about the plans to close the abattoir on Monday morning.
