Homes were evacuated in Criccieth in Gwynedd after the discovery of a hand grenade in a cupboard.
North Wales Police say the device was found at a house in Mona Terrace.
Emergency services were alerted at 0845 BST on Monday and homes in the street were evacuated.
Penpalad Road was also closed until the incident was been dealt with.
Police said later that the grenade dated from the First World War and no one was in any danger.
A bomb disposal squad took it away for destruction and the street was reopened.
