County 'needs 27 traveller plots'

Councillors have backed a report which says there is a shortage of pitches for travellers' families in Wrexham, with 27 new ones needed by 2021.

It said there are currently 28 pitches in Wrexham, of which 22 are authorised, with a six-pitch unauthorised site.

The figures assume a population growth rate of 3.9%, and more sites could be needed if that figure was to rise.

Councillors voted to endorse the report and its figures "as a basis for informing the Local Development Plan".

The social affairs health and housing scrutiny committee was told: "To make up the shortfall in current provision - mainly created by need from unauthorised developments and new family formation - 15 additional pitches are required on authorised residential sites over the next five years.

"A further 12 pitches will be needed to meet the growth in population on sites from 2013-2021."
