Plea to open village post office

A call has been made for a village post office to be re-opened after it was temporarily closed.

Denbighshire council said it was informed of the closure at Llanarmon yn Iâl on 20 October, but said it had not been given a reason why.

Councillor Sharon Frobisher said post offices were "invaluable" in rural areas, and in this case the nearest alternative was two miles (3.2km) away.

Post Office Ltd apologised and said the closure was for "contractual reasons".

Ms Frobisher, the council's lead member for communities, added: "Many people locally, such as the elderly, rely heavily on the services provided and the temporary closure will affect those living in the local community, albeit on a short term basis.

"The Post Office says that it is working to resume post office services at Llanarmon yn Iâl and we urge them to do so as soon as possible."

A Post Office spokesman said the closure was due to "contractual and operational reasons, following an audit at the branch."

He said the Post Office was working to resume services at the branch.

He added: "We do understand the impact that the closure of a branch has on the elderly, mothers with young children and the more vulnerable in our society, and we apologise to those affected by this temporary closure."
