A teenager who died in a New Year's car crash had celebrated her 17th birthday the day before, it has been revealed.

Rebecca White's parents, from Kinmel Bay, Conwy, say they are devastated. Their daughter was due to start a new job as a hairdresser.

A 19-year-old man, who was also in the Ford Fiesta that crashed, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The car hit a telephone pole on the A5119 in Sychdyn, near Mold, Flintshire at around 0320 GMT on 1 January.

North Wales Police said no other vehicle was involved.

Ms White was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital where she later died.

In a statement, her parents Frank and Caroline White said she was a much loved daughter, aunt and granddaughter.

"Rebecca was just 17 years old and the collision happened the day after her 17th birthday," they said.

"She grew up in the Prestatyn and Kinmel Bay areas and attended Emrys ap Iwan School in Abergele until just recently. She was about to start a new job as a hairdresser.

"We are all devastated by what has happened."
