Ex-keeper's memorabilia auctioned

A former Wales international cap earned by Dai Davies
Several Welsh international caps raised more than expected

A selection of items belonging to former Wales goalkeeper Dai Davies have raised £15,648 at auction.

More than 30 items were sold, with the highest-priced item - a 1980-81 full Welsh international cap - fetching £1,200.

The Everton, Wrexham and Swansea player won 52 caps for Wales and now teaches Pilates in Llangollen, Denbighshire.

Auctioneers Bonhams, of Chester, said there had been a lot of interest and they were "thrilled" with the results.

Mr Davies's items were among hundreds of sporting collectables auctioned on Wednesday, and had been expected to raise about £10,000.

Among the lots were several international caps, Welsh Cup winners tankards, and match shirts.

A 1982-83 full Welsh international cap sold for £1,140.

A swapped Scotland shirt worn by Graham Souness in 1979 had been expected to fetch between £400 and £600, but sold for £1,020.

Mr Davies, from Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, originally trained as a PE teacher after leaving school in 1966. But after completing his training in 1969, he instead signed for Swansea.

A Bonhams spokeswoman said: "There was a great deal of interest in the collection beforehand and we are thrilled with the fantastic result the collection achieved."
