Crow rescue brings town to a halt

The crow had been trapped on the roof for 24 hours

A busy town centre street ground to a halt for an hour and a half, as firefighters rescued a stricken crow.

Officers used an aerial ladder to free the bird from netting in Earl Road, Mold, in Flintshire.

One onlooker said the rescue, which resulted in the road being closed, seemed a "bit over the top".

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was duty-bound to respond to RSPCA requests, and could not say how much the operation cost.

The RSPCA said the rescue was organised because the bird had been trapped for 24 hours, and it had received calls from members of the public.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the actual rescue took 30 minutes.

One woman, who works in the street, said: "I thought that there was a life-threatening incident going on.

"I am not being unkind because I love animals and wildlife but it did seem a bit over the top. It must have been a very expensive exercise just to rescue a bird."
