Fears for 150 jobs at pizza firm

Up to 150 workers in Flintshire could face losing their jobs after a pizza company lost a major contract.

Paramount Foods, which has a pizza topping plant on the Deeside Industrial Estate, said it was doing "everything in our power" to minimise job losses.

But the company will enter a 90-day consultation period with the GMB union on Tuesday, and has told staff there is a risk of redundancies in September.

In January, the firm blamed falling sales for plans to cut 60 jobs.

The company warned staff there could be further job losses after some of its products were dropped by a retailer.

Managing director Phil Ryle told staff it "will clearly leave a substantial hole in our sales targets".

He said there was a "potential risk" that up to 300 employees would be made redundant across the firm's Salford Bakery, Deeside Topping, Deeside Distribution Centre and head office.

He added: "Please be assured that we will do everything in our power between now and September to minimise this number."

A company spokeswoman said up to 150 staff from Deeside could be affected in any redundancy programme.
