Waste warehouse damaged by fire

Residents living near a Flintshire waste recycling warehouse were advised to keep their windows shut as firefighters deal with a blaze.

Six fire engines and an environmental pollution unit were called to Alan Skip Hire in Broughton Mills Road, Bretton, on Friday night.

They were damping down on Saturday morning. No one was hurt in the fire.

The A5104 was closed near the Broughton Retail Park and at the junction of the B5129.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the warehouse was extensively damaged in the blaze.

They were not aware of what waste was in the building but said there were no chemicals present.

County safety manager Alyn Edwards said: "We are working with the owners of the unit and we will be conducting an investigation as to the cause of the fire as and when it is safe to do so."

The Environment Agency said there did not appear to be any contamination as a result of the fire.
