Night shelter put out to 'tender'

Wrexham Council is to invite tenders for the right to run a permanent night shelter for homeless people in Wrexham.

Following the closure of a temporary shelter a year ago, the Welsh Assembly Government allocated £40,000 a year for three years to allow it to continue.

However, a progress report presented to the executive board said extra funding was still needed.

Expressions of interest in operating the shelter will be invited shortly from relevant organisations.

The process means the shelter is unlikely to open until late summer.

It is proposed the night shelter will operate from the former community centre on Holt Road and planning permission for its change of use was given in December 2007.
