Lotto win 'written in the stars'

The champagne flies as members of the syndicate celebrate
A syndicate who won £84,491 on the lottery claim their good fortune was predicted in a horoscope.

The nine-strong group from a citizens' advice office in St Asaph, Denbighshire picked five numbers and the bonus ball in last Saturday's draw.

Syndicate organiser Ann Eglyn said the mother of the newest member, Sharon Griffiths, had read a forecast in a newspaper that she should buy a ticket.

"I'm really glad she was in our syndicate," she said.

"Sharon's mother was reading her horoscope last week, which said that Sharon should buy a lottery ticket and she told us," said Ms Eglyn, 58, a PA in the office.

"A group of us all went for lunch to celebrate the win.

"We were all talking about what we are going to spend our winnings on. We can't stop grinning."

Ms Eglyn realised they had won when she checked the numbers of the night the draw was made, although she admitted she could not believe it at first.

"I was straight on the phone to my colleagues, laughing with both joy and shock.

"One of my colleagues has been on in holiday in Spain, so we asked a relative to tell her when she called - I'm sure it's made her holiday even more enjoyable."

Many of the group are now planning holidays of their own with their winnings.
