People in a Wrexham village have persuaded a landowner to transform a former fly-tipping hotspot.

About 400 car tyres, several fridges, along with a number of mattresses have been cleared from the dump at Brymbo.

Local AM Karen Sinclair and MP Martyn Jones are to view the improvements made under an initiative against environment crime.

Campaigners say since the clean up by the landowners fly-tippers have stopped illegal dumping there.

Representatives from Environment Agency Wales, Wrexham County Borough Council and landowners Park Hill Estates will also be at Friday's viewing.

The landowners Park Hill Estate undertook the clean-up after local residents got together to started a campaign in September.

It's not a particular beautiful lane but it's clean and attractive
Kathryn Kyle, campaigner

Co-ordinator Kathryn Kyle, who lives on the same road and walks her four dogs past their every day, said: "It was appalling - it was a tip. We had 400 car tyres, several fridges, mattresses. It was just a local dump."

"We moved here 20-years-ago and it used to be cleared out quite regularly by the council. And then the regulations changed so it was up to the people who owned the land."

She praised Park Hill Estates for clearing the land up and said nothing has been dumped since.

"I think people have been scared of dumping things."

A new anti-tipping sign and a camera offering constant surveillance program have been installed at the site.

The residents will be marking the occasion by planting the area with daffodil bulbs ready for next spring.

The operation was part of the Environmental Crimewatch initiative, an agency-led project throughout north Wales targeting crimes.

Alan Winstone, local environment manager for the agency in north Wales said "The agency is dedicated to fighting environmental crime and this initiative is an excellent way to take this forward. "

"It's not a particular beautiful lane but it's clean and attractive. It's absolutely fabulous," said Mrs Kyle.
