A project promoting water sports in the Brecon Beacons National Park has received a £100,000 cash boost.

The park has appointed an officer to oversee the scheme, which aims to encourage more people to fish, canoe and kayak.

A new Beacons Splash Project website is also being built to advertise what is on offer for visitors and local people.

The money has come from the Environment Agency, but the national park is hoping other funders will come forward.

The Beacons Splash Project is part of a Wales-wide scheme by the Environment Agency to encourage water recreation.

The newly appointed "splash officer", Gez Richards said: "People can enjoy water recreation in many different ways from canoeing and kayaking to fishing and safe gorge walking.

"We're always looking for innovative ways to enable people to get active in, on and around water, whilst keeping a firm eye on the national park's responsibility to wildlife and conservation."

He asked anyone who wants to improve a water spot to get in touch.
