Reward for cash machine vigilance

Banks warn customers to beware of suspicious devices on cash machines

A bank has rewarded a man who spotted a suspicious device attached to one of its cash machines.

Craig Nowell, aged 22, noticed a tag and a tiny camera fixed to the card slot at an HSBC machine at Knighton, Powys.

He had recently seen a TV item on cash machine crime and suspected that criminals had fitted the device to scan card details and record Pin numbers.

The bank thanked Mr Nowell for his vigilance by giving him £100.

Mr Nowell contacted police, who have sent the device for forensic tests.
