Detective murder accused remanded

Four men have been remanded in custody accused of murdering a private detective 21 years ago.

Daniel Morgan, 37, from Monmouthshire, was found dead in a pub car park in Sydenham, south London in 1987.

The defendants include Mr Morgan's former business partner William John Rees, 53, of Weybridge, Surrey.

Also appearing at City of Westminster magistrates were James Cook, 53, of Surrey and Garry Vian, 47, and his brother Glen, 49, of South Croydon.

They will next appear at the Old Bailey in London on 31 July.

No applications for bail were made by their legal representatives.

Ex-Metropolitan Police detective sergeant Sidney Fillery, 61, also appeared charged with perverting the course of justice.

Mr Fillery was also remanded in custody until July.

A sixth man, a serving Pc arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, was released on bail on Tuesday.

Mr Morgan, who was originally from the village of Llanfrechfa, jointly ran a security firm called Southern Investigations.

His body, with an axe in the head, was found outside the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham on 10 March, 1987.
