A woman has been rescued after driving into a river near her home on the Powys/Carmarthenshire border.

Christine Latham was reversing her car into her drive, but went too far and ended up in the River Dwydderig between Brecon and Llandovery.

She was temporarily trapped and the fire service said they freed her after 45 minutes with 10 firefighters using ropes to secure the car.

Mrs Latham said she had panicked, but later felt "so silly".

"I know there'll be no end of jokes about it," she added.

"My husband said he's going to put it on the website."

  • In a separate incident, a boy was rescued from the River Usk in Brecon on Sunday when he got into difficulties.
