A parrot which can whistle the theme tune to Coronation Street has been reunited with its owners after escaping from its cage four days ago.

Jasper went missing on 30 April, but returned home in time for the latest episode of the soap on Friday.

But his Powys owners said the adventure had taken its toll and their bird was visibly tired, thirsty and hungry.

Jasper can also mimic barking dogs, a ringing telephone and the tune from ITV's Who Wants To Be a Millionaire.

Owners Paul and Debbie Melton said seven-year-old Jasper escaped from his cage and flew out of the back door of their home in Castle Caereinion, near Welshpool.

Following the disappearance Mr Melton said he drove miles looking for Jasper, an African Grey parrot.

He was found a few days later in a garden in the nearby village of Manafon.

"My wife is absolutely over the moon," said Mr Melton.

"Jasper was found by a couple in Manafon which is about eight miles away, but as the parrot flies it's probably about four miles.

"Jasper is getting over his adventure, but he's not as lively as normal and appears a bit tired.

"He seems a bit dehydrated too and has been eating his nuts and preening himself."
