A 49-year-old Polish man who disappeared while working in a forest has been found safe and well.

The man, who was spotted from the air by police helicopter, had got lost and had been missing for 29 hours.

The search was sparked on Wednesday afternoon when he was reported missing while working in the Tywi Forest on the Powys/Ceredigion border.

Police dog handlers and mountain rescue teams joined in the hunt for the man, who had been wandering in the forest.

Mark Jones, deputy leader of Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, said the man was discovered about five miles from the Powys village of Abergwesyn, near Llanwrtyd Wells.

"The man was found cold, hungry, wet and mildly hypothermic. He had been missing for 29 hours and had been wandering in the forest," added Mr Jones.

The man was part of a group working in the forest, and had not been seen since returning to a van for a rest on Wednesday morning.

Residents in the area were asked to check their outbuildings for the man, who has not been named.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team were alerted at 1900 BST on Wednesday and spent 10 hours searching for the missing man overnight.

The Longtown team, from Monmouth, and Central Beacons Mountain Rescue, from Merthyr Tydfil, took over at 0600 BST.
