Catherine Zeta Jones made a surprise visit to a special care baby unit during a short break in her home town of Swansea.

The Hollywood star had flown by private jet to Cardiff on Saturday alongside fiance Michael Douglas, in order to introduce their new-born baby Dylan to elderly family and friends.

Instead of a relaxing day at her parents' home in the Mayals area of Swansea, Zeta Jones made an unexpected visit to the unit at Morriston Hospital.

Earlier in the day, she had called in at the city's Longfields Day Centre - which caters for young adults with cerebral palsy and related disabilities.

"She is like a breath of fresh air. Everyone was absolutely thrilled by the visit," said centre administrator Denise Lucas.

"She is a former pupil of Dunbarton School which has links with the day centre.

"Catherine came to visit us when she was seven months pregnant.

"It was very low key at the time and nobody knew about it and she agreed to become patron of the day centre then and said she would be back. "

Mrs Lucas revealed that the actress had agreed to become patron for the centre earlier this summer.

"She was very friendly and natural and chatted with everyone," she added. "She had coffee with us and stayed about an hour in all. It was very exciting."

Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas arrives at his future in-laws' house

Over the weekend Zeta Jones and Douglas - who have taken over the bridal suite of the Swansea Marriott Hotel - threw a party for her relatives and friends.

Then on Saturday night, diners at Barrows, her favourite restaurant, were open-mouthed as they watched the celebrated couple order seabass and lamb.

As his wife-to-be swapped notes with other women who had recently given birth, Douglas was busily trying out what south west Wales had to offer for the golfing enthusiast.

The couple are expected to fly out to Douglas's home in Majorca over the next few days.
