TV and radio sport presenter Nic Parry is to be the next crown court judge in north Wales.

Mr Parry has been a part-time crown court recorder since 2001 and has been a solicitor for more than 30 years.

He presents the football programme Sgorio on the Welsh language channel S4C and commentates on sport in Welsh and English for BBC Wales.

He said: "This appointment is an honour not only to my family and I, but also to the solicitors' profession."

He paid tribute to solicitors, saying they played "an integral role in the administration of justice".

Mr Parry currently makes regular appearances at magistrates and crown court hearings throughout north Wales as a defence advocate.

While he will sit mainly at crown courts in Mold and Caernarfon, he will initially be sitting in the crown courts of Cardiff, Swansea and Merthyr.

He has chaired a number of Welsh language panel shows and has acted as stage compare at the National Eisteddfod on many occasions.
