Lifeboat searches for woman missing in Gwynedd

Lifeboat crews have spent the afternoon looking for a 68-year-old woman missing in Gwynedd since the weekend.

Pauline Annette Edwards, who is from Buckley in Flintshire, was staying at a holiday home in Trefor, where she was last seen at 1600 GMT on Friday.

Coxswain Mike Davies said search conditions were good as the crew checked a stretch of coast from Trefor back to Porthdinllaen.

North Wales Police and the Coastguards are also still searching the area.

Over the weekend coastguards, a lifeboat, RAF search and rescue helicopter as well as police and Sarda search and rescue dogs were brought in to help with the search.

Mrs Edwards is 5ft 2in (1.57m), slim, with collar length straight brown hair.

She was last seen wearing a black coat with a fur collar, three-quarter length black trousers and black boots.

Andy Carroll, from Holyhead coastguard, told BBC Radio Wales it was still not clear exactly what had happened.

He said the coastguard were called out at 2220 GMT on Friday evening, and the team from Llandwrog, near Trefor, were called out to help.

"The lady's holiday home, which is where they had been staying, is about half an hour walk from the coast but she is known to enjoy the coast and go down there for walks," he said.

Mr Carroll added that, based on the time which had passed, the search was roughly being undertaken along 11 miles of coastline, and also up to about five miles off-shore.

"The police obviously have their own area inland, and on Saturday dog handlers from Sarda - the search and rescue dogs association - said their dogs had shown a particular interest in a section of the coast to the south west of Trefor," he said.

"But again our part of this is looking after the seaward side and the coastline," he added.
