Police say they are concerned for the safety of two teenagers who have gone missing from their home as freezing temperatures grip the country.

Friends Talia Nicholas, 17, and Tyler Williams, 14, from Rogerstone, Newport, were last seen at 1715 GMT on Sunday.

They have contacts in the surrounding area and are known to spend time in the city centre, Gwent Police said.

A force spokeswoman appealed for anyone who sees them or the friends themselves to make contact as soon as possible.

The spokeswoman added: "The girls have been reported to us as missing previously but they have always returned home or been located safe and well within a short period of time.

"Due to their ages, the length of time they have now been missing and the cold weather conditions, locating the girls as quickly as possible and ensuring their safety and well being is paramount."

Talia Nicholas is described as white and slim with straight shoulder length dark brown hair and is approximately 5ft 4in (1.6m) tall.

She was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt, dark blue jeans, boots and could be wearing either a black or white coat.
