A fire investigation is continuing after the body of a 46-year-old woman was found at a house in Monmouthshire.

It is thought that Wendy Cleal could have lain undetected at her home at Catbrook near Tintern for up to 36 hours.

Fire crews were called after worried family and friends called at her home, when she missed massage therapy appointments.

The fire at the house is not being treated as suspicious.

It is understood that much of the upper floors of the property have suffered smoke damage, however the fire was out by the time emergency crews arrived on the scene on Tuesday.

They were alerted after her parents and a friend called at the house when they were unable to contact her.

One of the family friends used a ladder to view inside an upstairs rooms, when smoke damage was first spotted.

Police broke in to the home, where the Ms Cleal's body was discovered.

A post mortem examination is being carried out to establish how she died, and an inquest is expected to be opened later this week.
