Former Coronation Street actor Bruce Jones will face trial at Mold Crown Court on driving and assault charges.

Mr Jones, 56, who played Les Battersby in the soap, appeared before Prestatyn magistrates under his real name, Ian Roy Jones, and was granted bail.

He is accused of assaulting his wife Sandra, at Rhuallt, Denbighshire, dangerous driving on the A55 and two drink-driving charges.

His solicitor said he intended to plead not guilty to all the charges.

It is alleged Mr Jones assaulted his wife on 28 August.

He is also accused of driving his Mercedes dangerously on the same date, and of driving with excess alcohol on the A55 and in the car park of the Travellers' Inn at Caerwys, Flintshire.

He was bailed to appear at crown court on 11 December, on the condition he does not contact his wife.
