Van driver assaulted in robbery

Police in Cardiff are hunting two slim, hooded men who assaulted the driver of a security van and made off with a "large quantity" of cash.

It happened as the van driver was collecting money from the B and A Cash and Carry on Hadfield Road.

Officers said the van driver was not threatened with any weapons or injured.

They are appealing for anyone who saw a light coloured car, possible a BMW, being driven erratically in the area at about 1830 GMT on Wednesday.

Acting Detective Tudor Thomas of South Wales Police said: "I would like to reassure the community that these incidents are rare in Cardiff and there is a dedicated team of detectives following up a number of lines of enquiry to identify the people responsible.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw a light coloured car, possibly a BMW in and around Hadfield Road driving erratically at around 6.30pm.

"We also know that the suspect's vehicle left the car park without its lights on and almost collided with another car. We are asking the driver of that car to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Fairwater CID on 02920 528011 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
