Charges for single-use carrier bags in Wales will be compulsory by May 2011, the assembly government has announced.

The charge for single-use bags has not yet been decided, but it is expected to be between 5p and 15p.

Environment Minister Jane Davidson said she would be working with businesses to determine where the revenue raised could go. Shops will be able to determine where money raised by carrier bags sales is spent.
