Clive Street in Grangetown, Cardiff was still cordoned off on Sunday morning

Homes in a street in Cardiff were evacuated after a gas cylinder caught fire at a house.

Part of Clive Street in Grangetown was evacuated on Saturday night, involving up to 100 homes.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the fire service were involved in making the cylinder safe.

Residents were given shelter at a local leisure centre, with a 200m cordon in the street around the fire while the cylinder was allowed to cool down.

South Wales Fire and Rescue said they dealt with an acetylene cylinder fire after being called out just after 1900 GMT in a lane parallel to Clive Street.

The cylinder was being left for 24 hours to cool down.

South Wales Police said most residents had been allowed to return to their homes, apart from around 40 homes closest to the incident.
