Three arrested under Terror Act

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of committing terrorism offences, say Gwent Police.

The men, two aged 24 and the third aged 41, were originally arrested on Wednesday in Blackwood, Caerphilly county, after a drugs raid.

But they have now been arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 and transferred to London, where the case has been taken over by the Metropolitan Police.

The Gwent force said the inquiry was not linked to international terrorism.

The Met was asked on Thursday to take over the inquiry because of finds made in the house.

Toxic gas

Officers had executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act in Waunllwyn Crescent, Blackwood.

The searches of two houses and a lane in the area continued and a van has been removed.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they had attended Waunllwyn Crescent in Blackwood on Wednesday with police, where several small containers of chemicals were discovered.

Residents said on Wednesday police had told them to close doors and windows as they had found chemicals letting off toxic gas.

The three men are being questioned on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000 and taken to a central London police station.
