Protest over cockle licensing

Fishermen have met to protest at the river Dee over the new cockle fishing licence system.

The new system is more restrictive than previously to prevent cockle stocks being over-fished.

Local fishermen have said the new licensing system seem to disadvantage those from the Dee area. The Environment Agency Wales says the new cockle-license system favours those who can prove to have commercially fished the area before, but discriminating based purely on locality is not legally possible.
