Forensic examinations have been carried out at the scene

The family of a 42-year-old man who died after being assaulted in his own home have paid tribute to him.

David Tothill was found in a critical condition at his house in Whitchurch, Cardiff on Sunday and died a day later.

"David was the youngest of four brothers and was dearly loved by us all," said his elder brother Michael.

Three men from Whitchurch aged 18, 21 and 22, and a 17-year-old youth from Barry have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Mr Tothill added that his brother had been "a fun loving, easy going and generous person with an infectious sense of humour".

"He was an accomplished and honoured sportsman who lived life to the full," he said.

"All who knew him loved him. We have been left in a complete state of shock and are bewildered by what has happened.

"We have lost a wonderful brother in what is a senseless waste of life. We all miss David greatly but will never forget him."

Police investigating the murder are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesman said Mr Tothill was seen around midday on Saturday at his ground floor flat in Gwaun Close.

He was discovered injured by a neighbour at around 1030 BST the following day.

Officers are eager to speak to anyone who saw Mr Tothill on Saturday or during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The spokesman said there was a party in a nearby flat on Saturday night and officers are keen to speak to anyone who attended the event.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Fairwater Police Station on 029 2057 1530 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
