M4 brought to a standstill after crash near Bridgend
The motorway has now been closed in both directions

At least ten vehicles were involved in a crash on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 in south Wales which closed the road in both directions for a time.

One person was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and at least seven were sent to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.

The crash happened between junction 36 at Bridgend and junction 35 at Pencoed just after 1300 BST on Saturday.

An ambulance spokesperson said none of the seven were seriously injured.

Traffic Wales reported traffic was at a standstill for a while and drivers were warned to approach the area with care.

The motorway was closed between junction 34 at Miskin and junction 36 and police were directing drivers through the A473 at Waterton onto the A48 at Pyle.

Traffic Wales said by 1530 BST traffic was flowing smoothly on the motorway.
