Diesel spill near river tributary

A fuel spill near the tributary of a river is being investigated by the Environment Agency Wales.

The agency reported the spill of red diesel near the Afon Mydyr at Mydroilyn, near Lampeter, Ceredigion.

Specialist contractors have been called in to clean up the spillage and limit its impact on the local rivers and wildlife, the agency reported.

Agency officers were on the scene and isolated the source of the spill. The damage caused is not yet clear.

Red diesel is used for heating, electrical generators and for some agricultural vehicles.

An Environment Agency Wales spokesman said it was liaising with the local authority and Dyfed-Powys Police to investigate the reasons.
