Trapped horse rescued from gully

A stud farm owner has praised fire crews and a local farmer for rescuing one of her horses after it became trapped in a deep gully.

The horse was sedated by a vet as the firefighters and the farmer worked to save the animal at the stud Castle Caereinion near Welshpool, Powys

Richard Robbers used his digger to lift the animal before straps were put round it so it could be lifted to safety.

The rescue operation took two-and-a-half hours.

Clare Potter, who runs Caebrook Stud farm with her daughter Jackie, said the horse, called Cokett, now appeared to be fine despite the ordeal on Sunday.

Mrs Potter said: "The fire brigade were brilliant."

She said they had no idea how Cokett came to be stuck in the gully.
