Sex trial defendant found hanged

Merthyr Crown Court
Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard there had been a 'tragic development'

A man has been found hanged halfway through his trial into sex offences against a young girl.

David Morgan, 46, was found by his daughter at his late father's home in Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taf, after not showing for the trial's third day.

Mr Morgan, from Southampton, Hampshire, had denied seven charges of indecency, indecent assault and sexual assault.

The judge at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court told the jury there had been a "tragic development" and abandoned the trial.

Mr Morgan had been allowed out on bail at the end of each day's hearing and had been staying at his late father's house during the trial.

His body was found by his daughter after he failed to turn up in court.

The court had heard claims that Mr Morgan had abused a girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, for up to nine years from the age of six.

The girl told her PE teacher about the abuse after confiding in schoolfriends.

The court heard that the computer Mr Morgan used displayed a history of images of young looking, provocatively dressed females.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We are investigating the death of a 46-year-old man at an address in Mountain Ash.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious. The coroner has been informed."
