Young chefs are the toast of Wales
![]() The chefs helped run a Brussels restaurant for a week
Catering students from a Welsh college have been cooking up a storm in a European culinary competition.
The group, from Llandrillo College in Rhos-on-Sea, in north Wales beat young chefs from across Europe to win first prize. Teams from 15 EU countries including France, Italy, Ireland and Spain took part in the Silver Whisk competition. The college, representing the UK, had to run a Brussels restaurant for a week. The challenge facing the Llandrillo entrants was to create a hotel restaurant from scratch: designing the layout, choosing the stock and keeping costs down. They also created a feast using just local produce. The Welsh team has also won praise from Wales' MEPs who sampled the delights on offer, as well as the Tourist Board who say the Welsh service sector should savour the taste of victory.
